About Us

The specific aim of Tayside Carers Support Project is to cater for the needs of carers, that is, families and friends of those with a mental illness. Any mental illness qualifies for help from the project.

The services of the project are completely free and confidential, and we offer practical advice and information on mental illnesses.

Our services are Tayside-wide with support workers based in Dundee, Arbroath and Perth.

We support carer involvement and have an Involvement Worker who is based in Dundee, but with a Tayside wide remit. She works with carers who want to be more involved in improving the quality of mental health services.

In Dundee there is a Carer Support Facilitator who works with carers helping to prepare them to become involved in the Dundee Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy. This is done through a Preparation Course, and then the carers become part of the Awareness Raising Team.

We also have monthly support group meetings where carers can meet with people who have similar experiences, to talk, exchange views, support each other and also take part in some fun activities if they wish, all in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Our project is supported by one part-time administrator in Dundee and one in Perth & Kinross.
